IU Gets Attacked By Laser Beams During Performance

IU Gets Attacked By Laser Beams During Performance

Performing at a recent college event at Kyungwon University, IU felt the hostility of her anti fans as she was attacked by lasers directed to her face.

While IU had managed to unite the crowd with her performances of “Good Day” as they sang along to her, during her performance of “The Story Only I Didn’t Know”, IU’s face suddenly came under fire from laser beams from antis, who attempted to interrupt her performance trying to blind her.

Thankfully IU was able to handle the attacks that lasted around 10 seconds finishing the song without any issues, but fans are now worried if IU suffered any retina damage, as even a few seconds of direct contact with a laser beam, can cause permanent damage to the eye.

Check out the incident below starting at 0:45

IU YS’B Photoshoot

IU YS'B Photoshoot

IU was recently featured in a new photo shoot for the clothing brand Y’sb, in which a mirror-effect gives the appearance of two IU’s!

On May 11th, the clothing brand Y’sb released their latest pictorial featuring their model, IU, for their 2011 Summer collection.

Inspired by the English-originated art form decalcomania, in which a pattern or engraving is transferred to another surface, the photo shoot utilized a striking “doppleganger” effect, making it seem like IU is posing with her mirror twin. Representatives of Y’sb expounded upon their idea for the shoot, “By using a mirror, we took photos that seemed like IU had a twin. We did this in response to suggestions of fans, hoping that, due to IU’s growing popularity, there were two or even three IUs.”

Y’sb’s summer collection features a youthful, bohemian style of refreshingly bright colors, and is designed to emphasize a feminine charm.

Check out IU and her “twin” in the Y’sb summer photo shoot:

    IU looks like HaHa?

IU, the ‘nation’s little sister,’ has transformed into the ‘nation’s uncle.’

On May 2nd, a photo of the singer was uploaded on an internet portal site along with the caption, “IU as a man that even girls fall for?”

The photo shows IU at the film set for a major supermart’s CF, dressed in a white shirt with a blue cardigan thrown over, with hands slightly outspread. With the quintessential male accessory — a 2:8 hair parting and moustache — she looks every bit the part of an uncle. Particularly eyecatching is the fact that her beauty shines through her disguise.

Netizens commented, “She looks like HaHa,” “If she’s a man, is she now ‘I-goon’?”, and “If there’s a man like that you there, please introduce him to me.”

Meanwhile, IU is now the MC for SBS’ Inkigayo.

Dream Concert starts to reveal official line-up

Last week, Koreaboo reported about the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association’s official press release concerning the “I Love You Korea 2011 Dream Concert”.

After a fake list of performers started to be spread around the Internet, the announcement from KEPA pointed out that only TVXQ, 2PM, IU and 4Minute were officially confirmed as part of the line-up at that time.

Dream Concert’s official site was recently revamped to include a larger list of performers for this year’s concert. The concert is to be held on May 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

The performers who have been confirmed so far are TVXQ, 2PM, miss A, 4minute, BEAST, Secret, SISTAR, CN BLUE, IU, After School, U-Kiss, G.NA, KARA, K.Will and T-ara. On the 29th, Dream Concert’s official Twitter had also included FT Island and f(x) on the list of confirmed performers, but the two groups do not currently appear on the website.

There also seems to be some confusion with Star Empire’s ZE:A and Brown Eyed Girls’ Jea. On some parts of the website, the boys of ZE:A are listed as performers, but under the “2011 Dream Concert Artist” section, Jea is listed and ZE:A isn’t. More performers will be revealed during this week, and the situation will hopefully get cleared up soon.

    IU Increases Mexicana Chicken Sales

    IU Increases Mexicana Chicken Sales

After choosing IU as their 2011 spokes model, the fried chicken franchise Mexicana reported an impressive raise in sales from last year.

The power of the hallyu wave has also taken its hold on the franchise fried chicken industry. In the fast-food fried chicken industry, it’s difficult to find any spokes person as appealing as a hallyu idol with which to effectively advertise their product to teenage consumers.

With so many fried chicken franchise brands in the running, such as Mexicana, Goobne, MasDay, and HotSun Chicken amongst many others, companies frequently turn to popular idols in order to endorse their product, in turn, creating a fierce battle within the chicken industry.

Mexicana fried chicken wisely chose the young soloist IU as their 2011 model, employing a wide range of marketing tactics. IU, who is widely loved for her quality vocals and acting, is known as the “Nation’s Little Sister”, her strong point lying in her friendly and wholesome image. As a result of IU’s popularity, Mexicana reported a sufficient raise in sales within the past year, as a public relations of the company recently stated, “Last month’s sales are up 30% from the same period as the previous year, meaning the ‘IU Effect’ is clearly visible.”

IU vs Kim Yuna: is the less expensive spokesperson better?

In the world of advertisements, CFs, and billboards, fans are questioning whether or not stars that command high endorsement fees produce successful impacts. Such reasoning doesn’t seem to work in the advertising industry. Rather than stars who require high endorsement fees, those who require relatively lower fees are in fact producing stronger advertising impacts.

In February 2011, popular solo singer IU and Olympic gold-medalist figure skater Kim Yuna were both chosen as models for Samsung Anycall’s Galaxy S series, endorsing the ‘Hoppin’ and ‘Wave II’ models respectively, but reactions to their endorsements differed significantly.
Fans who have seen the commercials responded, “No matter how we look at it, as IU receives attention from her uncle fans, she emerges as the winner in this series of advertisements,” and “The nation’s little sister is now IU.”

According to sources from the industry, IU is worth 200 million won ($185,000 USD) in endorsement fees, while Kim Yuna is worth almost 5 times more, at 1000 million won ($925,000 USD).

Kyung Won Sik, Director of Korea’s Consumer Mind Strategic Research Institute, explained, “If there is double casting of models, inevitably, such a phenomenon will occur,” and “even though you may be advertising for just one brand, from the consumer perspective, their preferences for CF models and content will be divided.”

IU in May issue of Sure Magazine

K-pop is known for its idol groups with all of their multi-member glory that fans happily relish; each member of an idol group gives a different character and quality to grow to love. Nowadays, it seems like the idol group power is unrivaled. And, for the most part, it is, were it not for the solo artists. Many solo singers are veterans of the industry– Se7en, Lee Hyori, Rain, and BoA. All of these singers have made a large impact on K-pop on their own and are the forerunners of idols themselves, although not necessarily the groups.

However, many of these big soloists are out and about chasing after more challenging endeavors. BoA is out filming for the movie “COBU 3D” in Canada and has been residing in North America for a while to prepare for her role. Rain is shooting scenes for “Red Muffler”, his latest acting endeavor. As such, these soloists are, for the most part, not exactly active in the K-pop music scene at this time.

But who is? The answer to that question can vary. Members of SS501 are taking individual activities, Kim Taewoo is promoting his album “T-School”, and IU is appearing on multiple television shows. However, the members of SS501 and Kim Tae Woo are already veterans in their own rights– they have won awards before on music shows and have retained great popularity from their earlier promotions. IU, however, is not the same. Although IU undoubtedly has a very loyal and sizable following, it is recently with her latest “Three octave pitch” that IU has been given prominence in the K-pop entertainment scene.

As according to her current high popularity, IU has become one of the hottest Korean stars. Numerous variety shows have requested her to appear, and IU’s latest acting in the drama “Dream High” has allowed her popularity to soar ever higher. Thus, it comes with little wonder that IU has been asked to give an interview.

IU recently interviewed with Sure Magazine and has appeared in their May issue. Read it here!

    Behind The Scenes – IU

In London, a stylish Londoner happened to pass by on Brick Lane, and was called over to the set in order to stand beside IU for one of her photos. Apparently, he was quite taken by IU, for he mumbled to her the words, “May I have a kiss”? Disappointingly for him, however, IU is underage, and upon the realization, the man had to turn away with regret.

    Posted Image

    Scene #1

For IU, one of the places that she most wished to vacation in was London. Although IU had a busy schedule that was hectic until the second she stepped foot on the plane, and despite the fact that the flight was 10 hours long, IU was having a tough time falling asleep. Why? IU was thrilled to come to London and have this opportunity. When we arrived at the Heathrow Airport of London and came out from the gate, an unexpected event was there to greet us. Shyly waiting for IU’s arrival were dozens of fans from diverse nationalities, each eager to catch a glimpse of IU. Following the enthusiastic, unexpected welcome, the moment IU entered the car that was arranged for us, she remarked, “London appeared to be like a toy when I looked out from the plane; it’s so beautiful and charismatic that I couldn’t find myself able to peel my eyes away from the sight of it all. And, just like the very first time I ever met fans that could recognize me, I’m getting a similarly great feeling about being here”.

    Posted Image

    Scene #2

Strolling around the streets in London that we’ve always fantasized about, savoring the food that was daringly ordered from an unfamiliar brunch menu, and during the insanely busy photoshoot, IU could not help but hum the same song the entire time. After I inquired if what she was humming was one of her own songs, IU smiled and pleasantly told me that the song she was humming was a song by the group “10cm”, an indie-styled band that had two male members, and that the song was one that she had fallen in love with because of its multiplicity of musical colors, giving it a sophisticated yet catchy feel. Interestingly enough, that’s exactly how her song feels to us!

IU commented shortly afterward, “I’m occasionally asked ‘What does music mean to you?’ However, just thinking about how to answer this question in the form of a definition itself, feels like I’m trying to package something. Though I don’t know the answer yet, someday I do want to hear people say that I’ve become crazy about music”.

    Posted Image

    Scene #3

To this travel buddy’s eyes, “Lee Jieun”, who is only 19 years old, contains just as much vigor and vivacity as she does shyness; she is the very image of a young girl who is bright, fit, and eager for the world around her.

Regarding the changes that she underwent in order to become this image of “IU”, she revealed, “When I made my way through life, I managed to continuously find different sides to me that I had never known existed. I even surprised myself”.

On stage, and even in the off-stage daily occurrences that this girl experiences, it is glaringly apparent to anyone that IU is mature beyond her years. I thought to myself that this characteristic right here is somehow just one of the many innate gifts that this singing prodigy harbors.

    Posted Image

    Scene #4

Taking a quick break at an outdoor cafe for the sake of this interview, it suddenly occurred to me. Known for its unpredictable weather, London in April was supposed to be rainy, enough so that the term ‘April Showers’ was coined. But these past few days had been nothing but bright sunny spring weather.

Londoners began gathering around, fascinated by this tiny Asian girl’s photoshoot. Taking a quick look at the crowd, she stated, “Londoners must like matching colors and modern designs. Their tastes are similar to mine”. Suddenly, she tells me that the kind of music she’d like to make in the future are songs which contain “sincerity within delight”.

For some reason, I feel that she will grow to be exactly that kind of person.

    Posted Image

    Scene #5

“Honestly, when I can feel that a lot of people are watching me, I get a little scared, but at the same time, it inspires me. That is how I come to discover the real ‘me’ I’d like to show them. Of course, I understand that people like IU for her simplicity. However, that is certainly not all that there is to me. Thanks to this trip, I realized yet again just how precious this ‘me’ is. It also made me resolve to get healthier. That way, I’ll be able to make the music I want, study, and go on trips as much as I’d like.” IU finished.

IU to Provide Theme song For Animated Movie

The soloist IU will provide the vocals for the theme song for the upcoming animated film “Leafie, A Hen Into the Wild”.

It has been announced that soloist IU will be providing the theme song for the upcoming animated movie “‘Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild”, which chronicles the journey of a small hen stepping outside her comfort zone and into the big world.

TVXQ’s Changmin gets shy and can’t look IU in the eye

After singer IU showed off her “3 level octave” voice, she showed off her “3 levels of facial expressions”, which greatly impressed TVXQ’s Changmin.

On the April 10th episode of SBS’s “Heroes”, the cast took wedding photos with TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin.

During the broadcast and before they officially took the wedding photos, MC Noh Hongchul asked Changmin, “Which Heroes cast member do you want to take the wedding photo with the most?” Upon hearing IU’s name being mentioned, Changmin had a surprised expression while sending a secret signal to Yunho. Even though Changmin explained, “It was only a surprised expression,” his inner feelings were revealed when he exchanged glances with IU.

In order to choose their partners for the wedding photo shoot, TVXQ and the cast had to look into each others’ eyes. When looking into the eyes of Seo Inyoung, Kahi, and Shin Bongsun, Changmin was composed. However, in front of IU, Changmin shyly lowered his head. IU used her bright eyes to send Changmin a “3 level expression”, which made Changmin unable to look her in the eye. He lowered his head, causing laughter from everyone.

2PM’s Wooyoung got played by IU?

On a recent appearance on SBS “Night After Night” together with Taecyeon and 2AM’s Seulong, Wooyoung revealed a story on how he once got played by IU.

When asked about his co-star in “Dream High”, Wooyoung confessed on how he had a hard time trying to get close to IU. Confessing that “IU really puts up a front, so it was hard for us to get close. I couldn’t even ask her for her number, so I asked Seulong to indirectly text her for me.”

To their surprise, IU replied back saying, “ Oppa! There’s probably no need for us to get to know each other until the last day of shooting, right?” which made Wooyoung depressed.

While the show progressed, Wooyoung also confessed that he had no idea that she was that cold, but for the sake of the drama, he tried trying to talk to her and even decided to go out and eat. Taecyeon also revealed that “At first they looked like they weren’t all that close and then suddenly, I hear that Wooyoung and IU went out to eat all by themselves.” But later on, Wooyoung confirmed that it was true that they went out to eat but sat at different tables. Thinking that it wasn’t right, both promised to eat out again and went with the staff to get ribeye.

Feeling burdened by the price, Wooyoung reportedly paid for the bill after IU said, “If Wooyoung bought all this, then that would make him a really cool guy.”

To end his story, Wooyoung eventually confessed, “I got played by IU,” making the entire studio explode in laughter.
